Application Security Chalk Talk

Security, User Group
At Farm Credit Services of America, where I am employed, we go through great lengths to ensure our development teams have plenty of training opportunities to help ensure we can develop the best possible user experience for our customers. These opportunities might come in the form of local or national conferences, self-paced learning – such as with Pluralsight – or in-house training – some of which is taught by employees and others taught by outside experts. Starting this week, we have the pleasure of bringing in two top-notch security experts from TrueSec to provide application security training to all of our developers - Hasain Alshakarti and Fabio Viggiani. While here, they have graciously agreed to host an Application Security Chalk Talk for anyone interested in attending. This chalk talk is…

User Group
[Update: The slides for this meeting are now available here] It’s a bit short notice but the next ALM User Group meeting is tonight at 6:00 PM. Here are the details: Topic Life Outside of TFS - Ever wondered what ALM tools are out there besides TFS?  Is it better to go best-of-suite or best-of-breed?  This talk will be your chance to learn! CSGi writes, builds, deploys, and maintains millions of lines of code across multiple languages and platforms.  It has been undergoing an agile transformation for a number of years now.  Early on in that process, they adopted the practice of Continuous Integration across the entire enterprise and put together a comprehensive ALM solution based on best-of-breed components (Jira, Confluence, Fisheye/Crucible, Jenkins, SVN, NAnt/MSBuild) and home grown tools to…

Omaha ALM User Group–Inaugural Meeting

User Group
The Omaha ALM User Group, formerly known as the Omaha Team System User Group, is having its inaugural meeting tomorrow night, Tuesday, January 15th, 2013.  The Omaha ALM User Group is a technology agnostic group focused on utilizing tools and automation to support the people and processes across the complete application lifecycle.  The group is co-lead by Jeff Bramwell and Mike Douglas. Our first talk is Creating a deployment framework with TFS and custom PowerShell Cmdlets by Andy Bayer: As testing and release cycles continue to shorten for developers, automating application deployments becomes almost a necessity.  TFS and WebDeploy provide some very powerful tools to simplify application deployments, but have limits to what can be done.  An excellent way to extend the out-of-the-box deployment tools is with PowerShell, but that…

OTSUG Meeting: Kinect + TFS = Kinban

TFS API, User Group
Although the Omaha Team System User Group has not met in several months we had a great meeting tonight.  As always, our meeting was hosted by Farm Credit Services of America (FCSAmerica).  This time, however, we had the privilege of meeting in the brand new building that just opened last month.  The new building is outstanding and the meeting space for after-hours events just can’t be topped!  Thanks again to FCSAmerica for sponsoring our user group! Tonight’s topic, Kinban, was presented by Jeremy Novak (side note: Jeremy presented once before for the OTSUG about two and a half years ago).  Kinban is a product that was born out of an internal initiative at FCSAmerica called GeekFest 2011.  Kinban adds life to your planning meetings and morning stand-ups by allowing the…

Looking forward to the next meeting on July 26th, we are in need of a speaker.  If you have a topic that you would like to discuss and are willing to present on, please let me know.  If there are topics you would like to discuss but do not want to present on, let us know about those as well.  If we receive enough topic ideas, we may…
